Lying midway between the Lake District World Heritage Site and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Eden Valley in the east of Cumbria receives much less attention than its more popular neighbours. The River Eden, from which the valley takes its name, rises above Mallerstang Edge on the border between Cumbria and North Yorkshire. It meanders through unspoilt countryside on its journey of approximately ninety miles to the Solway Firth, just beyond Carlisle. I have put together this collection of images to show that there is plenty of beauty on offer in Cumbria outside the usual tourist honeypots!
